Jack White started home brewing. In 1992 he opened Home Brew Mart: A home brewer’s nirvana filled with supplies and ingredients. In 1996 he began Ballast Point Brewing together with Yuseff. Yuseff loves fishing, and he and Jack both love beer. So they brought the two together and started naming their beers after fish.

The brewery has grown from a back yard set up to over 120,000 gallons in capacity in San Diego (2013).
