Whitbread, UK

In December 1742 Samuel Whitbread went into partnership with Thomas Shewell. Whitbread invested £2,600 in the two small breweries. The Goat Brewhouse made porter and Brick Lane produced pale and amber beers.

In the early 1970ties it was Britain's third largest brewer. In 2001 the brewing part was sold to InBev. InBev controls the use of the Whitbread brand, and the hind's head logo, for use on beverages.
