Charles Hall, born in 1751, founded the Ansty Brewery in 1777.

In 1847 Robert Hall, the founder's son, took George Woodhouse into partnership and George astutely married one of Charles' granddaughters. The name Hall & Woodhouse had begun. In 1875 the Badger image was adopted as the company trademark, making it one of the oldest registered marks on record.

King and Barnes was taken over in 2000.

Tangle Foot
The legend say that many years ago the brewmaster hosted at tasting to coin a name to his new ale. Several tankards were consumed an on rising to go the Head Brewer experienced a sudden loss of steering, and so unwittingly fell on a name for this legendary ale.
