Founded in 1759 by Arthur Guinness. He began by brewing ale, and in the 1770s started brewing porter. His porter was so successful that in 1799 he stopped brewing ale.

In a merger in 1997 between Guinness PLC & Grand Metropolitan PLC was the company called 'Diageo' PLC formed.

The harp-logo is from an old Irish musicinstrument. The origianal harp is at the Trinity College Library in Dublin.
