San Miguel is founded in 1890 in the the Philippines. Today the brewery is a majority-owned subsidiary of San Miguel Brewing International Ltd, who are af part of Kirin.

In 1948, San Miguel acquired Hong Kong Brewers and Distillers Ltd. In 1963, the company name was changed to San Miguel Brewery Ltd.
