Alken-Maes

Alken-Maes was created out of a merger of Maes and Alken in 1988. Both had specialized in pils. Maes purchased the Union brewery (based in Jumet) in 1978, which produced Grimbergen beer among others. In 1989 Alken-Maes purchased a 50 per cent stake in De Keersmaeker brewery (Mort Subite). Ciney was bought in 2000, Brugs Witbier and the rest of De Keersmaeker. Alken-Maes was in 2000 bought by Scottish & Newcastle, which was bought by Heineken in 2007. |

Judas | |
Judas uses a mixture of hop varieties from Bohemia and other regions. Following fermentation the beer is quickly matured in the cellar until it has obtained its unique flavour. Judas undergoes a second fermentation after bottling. A strong ochre-coloured beer, bitter-sweet, mild and with a full, rounded flavour. | |
