A Trappist Monastery.

The religios Achel are dated back to 1686 where Petrus van Eynatten, founded a community of hermits. It ended at the French Revolution.

With help from Westmalle was Sint Benedictus Abdij establiced in 1846. From 1850 was a small brewery in the monastery. It closed in 1914.

In 1999 opened a new housebrewery with help from Brother Antoine from Rochefort, and in 2001 was the first Achel 8 on bottles.

Achel lost the right to use the trappist-logo in 2021. The last monk left the monestery. The beer is still brewed at the brewery.
